New Jersey Turnpike Authority Selects Pinnacle

Pinnacle Wireless awarded $9.3m design and implementation contract. July 12, 2006 — The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) Commission has voted to award Pinnacle Wireless a communications contract to provide the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway with a new wireless voice-and-data network for roadway operations. The system will support more than 2,300 subscriber units with two-way voice communications and Global Position Satellite and Automatic Vehicle Location (GPS/AVL) services for the Authority’s fleet of vehicles. In addition, the network will support the Authority’s intelligent transportation systems (ITS) by controlling 300 variable message signs (VMS): speed-limit signs, weather signs and Amber Alert systems.

The wireless voice-and-data system will be integrated with the the Authority’s Traffic Management Center (TMC), which will be operational in late 2007. As a component of the project, Pinnacle will bring together the 30 RoIP Communication Consoles that Pinnacle implemented for the Authority in 2005 with the new wireless network. The integrated communications system will be capable of monitoring the safety of roadside workers along the entire 440 miles of Authority roads.
